You’ll need to create an account on the Build.Black. App by creating a user account to write reviews, post photos, or use any of the features beyond searching Build.Black.

A user account on Build.Black. is for personal, non-commercial use of the website, and should not be used to promote a business, website, event, etc.

Business owners interested in using Build.Black. should review the benefits of business accounts below. Note that although we do allow business owners to have personal user accounts, they cannot be used to promote their own business, nor should they be reviewing other businesses they compete with.

  1. A business account offer a free suite of tools to highlight your business and connect you to the Build.Black. community. By creating a business account, you can:
  2. Join the conversation with your customers
  3. Respond to a review with a direct message or public comment.
  4. Post photos and update business information
  5. Upload photos, add a link to your website, and ensure that your hours are up to date so consumers searching for your business can easily find it.
  6. View customer analytics
  7. Track visitor engagement and customer leads from your Build.Black. Business Page.

Things You Should Know About Build.Black.

    1. Build.Black. was founded in 2018 in an effort to build a stronger community by focusing on four pillars:
      • Uplifting Black Youth Voices
      • Health Equity and Access
      • Justice and Policing in Black Communities
      • Investment in Black Neighborhoods and Businesses
    2. All pillars are critical to building a sustainable community.
    3. The focus of the Build.Black. App is on economic development, but will also on the other three pillars.
    4. In addition to locating businesses, you can use Build.Black. to communicate with other Build.Black. members, locate events, and find discounts and coupons from local businesses.
    5. Each business owner can create an account to message their customers.
    6. Note that Build.Black. may sell ads to local businesses and those ads may be represented as pop ups or banners on your screen.
    7. You can access Build.Black. via iPhone and Android. This application may not be supported by Windows or Blackberry.

1. Open the App Store
2. Navigate to Updates
3. Search for the Build.Black. App. Apps needing updates are always located at the top.

If you’re on an android device:
1. Open the Google Play store
2. Look for the menu icon, typically located in the top left. It looks like 3 horizontal bars.

The instructions below are for creating a personal user account as a consumer on Build.Black. If you’re a business owner, you’ll want to create an account on Build.Black. for Business Owners.

Once you sign up, we’ll send a confirmation message to the email you provided. You’ll need to click the confirmation link in the email before your account becomes active. Be sure to check your spam folder and any other email tabs if you don’t see this email in your inbox.

If you don’t receive a confirmation message or run into other trouble with your account, please contact our Support Team.

From an iPhone

Build.Black users should not create multiple accounts, harass other Build.Black members, impersonate other individuals, post offensive or irrelevant content, or post content that is not their own. If you notice specific content that may be in violation of the Build.Black. Content Guideline, please contact Customer Service. If you come across a questionable user whose bad behavior goes beyond an individual review, please report the account.
